How Pack and Store Boxes More Effectively

Moving and Storing

Pro Tips From the Professionals

For those of you that have ever moved.  Packing up a house can be a daunting task.  Everything needs to be placed in a box, wrapped well to prevent breakage, and labeled for what room it came from or where it is going.  This is even more important if friends and relatives will be helping.  No one wants to be asked a million times “where does this box go?”  You have more important things in the moving process.

The worst thing that can happen is you want to find something that is sitting in a box in a storage unit.  Do you really want to take a few hours opening up boxes trying to find that one thing that you needed a few hours before.  Time is everything and no one wants to waste time.

It is important that when you move or pack boxes to be stored that you label each box with detailed information like room, maybe a box number, and the contents of what’s inside.  This will make it really easy for you to see what inside without having to open every box.

Pro Tip: Consider a home inventory app that lets you take pictures of each box, assign a number,  and type a description of what’s inside (see image) (just search ‘home inventory’ in your phones app store to see what will work for you.) We use an app called Encircle. Checkout it out Here.

How to Pack a Storage Unit: Organize

After each box is packed and you are at the storage unit, pack the boxes with labels facing out so that you can easily see each box and find it quickly. You can even keep designated rooms together if possible.

Pro Tip: Consider making an aisle of single layer boxes so that no box is covering another, further reducing time to find and move more boxes than you need to (see image).
