How to Polish Silver
Fine dining silver isn’t as popular as it once was. Many people have silver platters, utensils, and bowls, mainly used as decoration pieces in a hutch or on a shelf. Whether it’s from a fire or just from everyday use or lack of use it can become tarnished over time. Here are some easy ways to polish those silver platters and other dining accessories quickly and affordably.
One method is by using boiling water, baking soda, and aluminum foil (All for under $6)
Step 1: Boil water
Step 2: Roll up foil into a loose ball (not too tight)
Step 3: Add 1 cup baking (1 Tbs. at a time)
Step 4: Place or hold silver item in water, making sure its touching the foil at all times
Repeat steps for each item. If you have lots of items you can leave stove burner on to keep water hot and more effective in the process.
Another method is using pickling salt in boiling water while scrubbing it with steel wool ( All under $6)
Step 1: Boil water
Step 2: Add Pickling Salt
Step 3: Soak item in the water
Step 4: Use the steel wool to polish surface of the silver
One thing to remember is to keep the water as hot as possible. For small items you can use a pot on the stove or a slow cooker kept on warm.
Hope this helps and gets your old silver looking shining once again.
