How To Pack A KitchenAid Mixer for Moving?
What’s the worst thing about moving?
It is no surprise that the worst part about moving is the packing. It’s true that it can be fun and a good time to organize your home, but there’s just so much stuff to wrap, box, and pack to ensure everything arrives in one piece to your new home or stay fresh while in storage. One of the most time consuming places to start packing is the kitchen and dining rooms. Between mixing bowls, dinnerware, and appliances, the kitchen is filled with a lot of small, fragile things, some of which can be expensive to replace if they are damaged.
It’s All in the Boxing
As with most people, you probably get moving boxes at places like U-Haul or your local home improvement store like Home Depot. Those places are great for moving supplies because they have a lot of different box sizes from extra small to extra large boxes. Here is a pro tip. Use the small boxes for most items especially in the kitchen. Packing too many items, especially books and plates, in larger boxes leads to inner breakage rates, not to mention tire you out faster while loading a truck.
Pro Tip…
“Use the small boxes for most items, especially in the kitchen.”
So what do you do with awkward sized and heavy items, let’s say a Kitchen Aid mixer. A Kitchen Aid mixer should probably be boxed and kept protected, as they are not cheap to replace. But how do you box it. It’s too tall for a standard ‘small’ box and too small and heavy for a medium box. You would need lots of extra paper to fill it in and that's a lot more wasted space in the truck. The solution. Use two small boxes stacked on top of each other. This creates a custom size box that fits a standard kitchen aid perfectly. If you have been using mostly small boxes to pack your kitchen it will still stack perfectly with all the other ones in your moving truck. There’s nothing better than a well stacked moving truck that fits together like a game of Tetris. Not to mention the size of the small box is easier to carry than a wide, medium or large box.
So the next time you pack your Kitchen to move or to store. Consider using smaller boxes to save your back and create custom sized boxes to better fit those awkward in between sized items like your KitchenAid mixer.
