4 Overlooked Areas in Home to Clean

Do you clean everything in your home? If you don't, then you're not alone; 33% of households believe they do not clean everything in their home. It's easy to vacuum, mop, and do the dishes, but there are many places in your home that can easily be forgotten on a weekly and monthly basis. Some of these areas are hard to see, and others are just a pain, but they can build up to become noticeable dirtier if you forget.

Common Overlooked Areas to Clean

  • Fridge produce drawers

  • Light fixtures

  • Ceiling fans

  • Garbage can insides

Take a Peak in the Fridge

No one ever opens the fridge and stands looking at the shelves, let alone the drawers. It is a common instinct to keep the fridge door open for as little as possible; This leads to not noticing some rotting food that could be getting stuck on the plastic or glass shelves. A good rule is right before you fill it back up during your weekly grocery run, wipe down the entire inside, remove the drawers, and spray them out in the sink. No one wants rotting fruit juices to touch your newly-bought produce.

Use that overhead light. You Find Hidden Items

If you, like most people, enjoy the natural light. Turning on the overhead light is a rare occurrence. Once you turn it on, you may see all the Dust that can cumulate inside the fixture bowl. Out of sight, out of mind, but that doesn't mean it is clean. Take the time to pull out that step ladder, unscrew the cover, and wipe it inside and out. Bonus, You might find things hiding up there that you or your kids might have hidden inside (Those places make great scavenger hunt places). Sometimes even little too good.

Circulating Air, collecting Dust

Who doesn't love a good ceiling fan in the heat to the summer to keep them cool. It feels so good to park yourself under the fan and take that fresh breeze in the face. What doesn't look good is looking at the fan blades. Those things get insanely dirty and make you wonder if you're breathing some of that into your longs when you switch directions for the season. Go ahead and keep that step ladder out and wipe those blades off on a weekly or at least monthly basis.

What's that smell?

There is a reason you keep your trash can covered and maybe even concealed in your kitchen cabinets. They are dirty and stinky. Perhaps you missed the mark a couple of times, or perhaps you even forgot to put the bag in for a few hours and were constantly throwing things in without knowing. Whether you forgot to put the bag in or were off the mark in your throw, it's a good idea to take that trash can outside, spray, and scrub it down, inside and out. There is no need to throw it out; as cheap as it is, things can look as good as new with a little deep clean each week.

Next time you do your weekly cleaning, make a list of some of the most forgotten places and tackle one or two a week. That will not only make your home cleaner but will give you satisfaction once you see the difference it can make. Take the cleaning challenge and clean in hard-to-reach and out-of-sight places.
