Decorating and Storing Your Seasonal Decorations

Changing your home throughout the seasons can last anywhere from a day to a week.  Whether you go all out for the holidays or just give your home a few holiday accents is totally up to you.  But in the off season where does everything go, and when next year comes will it be easy to recreate?

Use clear containers

Finding ample storage spaces can be challenging depending on your home situation.  Using clear containers is recommended so that you can see what is inside.  When every container is stacked on top of each other, having a clear container will save you time in not needing to lift and open every container.

 Use the same size container

Finding a style of container you like and sticking to it can lead to easier stacking and storing. Stacking saves space and stacking similar sizes leads to a more stable stack.

Color coordinate items

Many seasons have unique colors associated with them.  Spring has a lot of pastel shades of colors.  Thanksgiving a lot of browns and yellows.  Halloween has a lot of orange.  Then Christmas has a lot of red.  Color coordinating with clear containers allows for even quicker scanning to find what you need.

 Group similar items

Along with color, grouping similar items is also key to a speedy transition.  Keeping all tree ornaments in one box, lights in another, and tabletop and mantel decor in another.  When it's time to decorate the tree all you have to do is grab one or two boxes and you're ready.

Within Christmas decor  it's a good idea to separate the distinctly Christmas items from the winter items, then you can quickly put away the Christmas and leave the winter decor out for another month or two.  A bonus tip for decorating is using neutral vases that you can quickly add seasonal botanicals to brighten up the seasons.

Using a neutral looking vase is economical cause you only need one for the whole year.  Then to save even more money you can walk your property and cut off seasonal branches for a quick seasonal makeover.  This not only saves money, but also saves space as you don’t have to store the branches after the season.
